W H Y T H R E E D A Y S A W E E K ? We offer three sessions per week so you can choose the one that works best for your schedule. While you're welcome to attend more than one day per week, we start with a topic on Thursday, and then repeat similar material on the following Tuesday and Wednesday. Check out the upcoming live sessions on your Drafting Workshop home page.

Draft your manuscript in whatever program you prefer. You'll have a chance to share a few pages of your writing with your mentors each when you check in. When you share, we prefer that you share a PDF of your selected pages. You can also get feedback on your work in a variety of other ways. See the C A N I G E T F E E D B A C K ? link below.

We know that you write for the love of it ... points aren't at the heart of it. However, getting to the end of that draft can take a lot of perseverance, and we always recommend that writers set smaller milestones and celebrate their progress along the way. That's why we encourage you to set a monthly goal for your drafting, and we award you points for your progress.
Since you'll only log your points once a month, you might enjoy keeping tabs for yourself to see how you're doing. Print this tally sheet to track your progress through the month. (It makes your end-of-month log much easier to complete, too!)
Log your points monthly on your DW homepage. Click this link to go there directly.
Wondering what you can spend points on? Browse the shop on your home page. Here's a direct link.

You can earn up to 500 points for your drafting progress. Decide whether to count words, minutes spent writing, or total writing sessions for your monthly goal.
Words written — 10 words = 1 point
Minutes spent writing — 1 minute = 1 point
Per writing session — 1 session = 25 points
If you know you'll hit 500 points early in the month because of your current writing pace, let us know and we can up the challenge for you. We want 500 points to be a motivating, but reachable, goal for you.

You also earn 50 participation points for each activity you participate in:
⇢ Writing or Creative Challenges
⇢ Spilling Ink Sessions
⇢ Author Interviews
⇢ Feedback Sessions
C A N I D O U B L E U P ? You're absolutely welcome to try a challenge more than once, or to attend more than one of our weekly sessions, but you'll only earn points once per challenge or topic. So, for instance, if you attend a Spilling Ink: Shades of Emotion session on Thursday and the live session that covers that same material the next Tuesday, you'll earn 50 points total for the Spilling Ink: Shades of Emotion session.

We love that you're ready to share your work! There are a few ways you can share your writing and get feedback as part of the DW. Toggle the options below to learn more.
On the third Thursday of the month, and the following Tuesday and Wednesday, we focus on feedback. We encourage you to let us know ahead of time if you plan to bring a page or two of writing. You can easily let us know by responding to the weekly email you'll receive before the session.
We encourage you to also bring a question for us to discuss with regard to your piece.
For instance, do you want to know: ✶ What we know (and don't) about your main character
✶ What draws us in and where (if anywhere) we feel lost
✶ How you might add an element (conflict, humor, surprise, etc) to the scene
It's always much more helpful to ask for feedback on a piece of work that is not yet finished, so that the feedback helps you as you continue to work on the scene.
Feedback from DW Counselors
Our DW Counselors are teens who are part of the Inklings Youth Advisory Board—accomplished writers who also love connecting with you and supporting you. If you have a longer piece of work that you need feedback on, you're welcome to request a read-through from one of our DW Counselors with this form:
Please note: Turnaround time for a counselor review can take up to two weeks, depending on the amount of material submitted. You'll receive big-picture feedback about your piece, and in response to any questions you submitted with your request.
You're welcome to submit up to five pages, double-spaced, as a PDF with your monthly check-in. We'll provide big-picture feedback and a response to any questions you submit with your work. You can submit a weekly or monthly check in at this link.
If you're at the point where you need a full manuscript editorial read from a mentor, want week-by-week detailed feedback, or would like to complete a full-novel revision in preparation for publication, we have one-on-one mentorships to support you. Email Naomi at email@example.com for more information. Your parent or guardian can also schedule a meeting with Naomi to discuss mentorship at this link:

In the Drafting Workshop, connect with your mentors with weekly and monthly check-ins. You can access those forms on the DW home page, on the check-in page, and they're also below so you can take a peek. No matter where you access the form, your responses come in to us. We've just posted them in a few places so they're always close at hand.

Weekly check-ins aren't required, but we do ask for monthly check-ins from all DW'ers.
We will email you if we don't receive your monthly check in by the 5th of the following month. Your monthly check-in is where we check in about your goal, your overall progress, and make sure that you have everything that you need as part of our community. It's an important way we stay connected with you, and make sure you're supported. Thanks in advance for making that check-in a regular habit!

One thing you can do is to join the conversation with counselors, other Drafting Workshoppers, and mentors. Not sure what you'd say? Not to worry! We have questions and prompts to get you started. And you can also ask your own questions and start conversations about topics you're most interested in, too. Join the conversation here.
We also have a growing collection of inspiring material and resources from past months of the Drafting Workshop. Here are a few examples:
