Write a scene in which two characters say the opposite of what they mean. First, decide why these characters aren't speaking the truth to one another. You might choose two characters from your work in progress, or create characters to experiment with this strategy outside of your project.
Play with a variety of ways to say the opposite of what you mean, whether your characters are acting cat-like and aloof, or they're keeping a secret, or using sarcasm, or any other strategies for not saying exactly what they mean.
Once you're finished, think about when you might want your characters to say exactly what they're thinking. When might you use this strategy, of speaking the opposite of what they mean? When might they say part, but not all of what they mean?
