Let's write a top ten list this week.
What are ten things that "everybody knows" you should (or should not) do in the world of your story?
Step One: Brainstorm as many things "everybody knows" as you can.
Maybe everyone knows:
- Pedestrians have the right of way.
- People shouldn't do magic after dark.
- You shouldn't eat peanut butter at school because someone might be allergic.
What's true in the world of your story?
Step Two: Make your list into a top ten list by ranking the items. Item ten is the least important on the list, and one is the thing that you absolutely, definitely must never, ever forget.
And then?
Brainstorm how you might break the rules.
